How To Transform Your Job Duties Into Impactful Accomplishments

One of the biggest mistakes job seekers make during the application process is overlooking the importance of a well-crafted resume. As a result, they simply stuff their resume with all of their job duties, giving no indication of their actual performance. Don’t make this mistake!

Instead, transform your job duties into accomplishments where possible. To make it simple, think of you job duty as the how. In order to transform it into an accomplishment you need to provide the reader with the what and the result. The what explains why it's relevant and the result is the magic that only you bring!

You can paint a clear picture by structuring your accomplishments as follows: (1) what you did, (2) how you did it & (3) sharing the outcome/overall results. 

Let's look at a couple examples!

Example 1:

Job duty: Responsible for cold calling 

What: Increased product awareness

How: Initiated 100+ phone calls daily

Result: Increased the number of prospective clients by 35% in 2019

Accomplishment: Increased product awareness by initiating 100+ phone calls daily increasing the number of prospective clients by 35% in 2019

Example 2:

Job duty: Responsible for creating training documents

What: Improved department efficiency

How: Created new training documents

Result: Reduced the onboarding time from 3 weeks to 2 weeks

Accomplishment: Improved department efficiency by creating new training documents, reducing the onboarding time from 3 weeks to 2 weeks
